A 12-year-old Naperville boy with a history of sleepwalking was found at O'Hare Aiport Monday morning after apparently driving off in his family's sport-utility vehicle in the dead of night.
The boy and SUV were found about 11 a.m. Monday at O'Hare, unharmed and there of his own free will, according to Naperville police.
David Moosemiller appears to have picked up the keys to the family SUV sometime after 2 a.m. He walked out of the family home in the 1400 block of Lantern Circle, backed the SUV out of the garage, and drove off, Naperville police said.
Naperville police say the case is now being investigated as an apparent runaway situation, according to Cmdr. Dave Hoffman.
The boy called his mother from a CTA platform at the O'Hare Blue Line stop, according to Hoffman, who did not know the specifics of the conversation.
Investigators who were stationed at the home at 1460 Lantern Circle immediately called Chicago Police, who found the boy unharmed on the platform. The boy told police the vehicle was parked on the second level of parking structure near the United terminal, Hoffman said.
Before David was found at O'Hare, the SUV was last seen headed south on College Road toward 75th Street, police said.
David has a history of sleepwalking, but has never sleep-driven the family car before, police said.
