Sex And The Windy City: Chicago's Dating Scene
Some Singles Need A Little Professional Help
CHICAGO (CBS) ―
How does Chicago measure up for singles? The author of "Sex and the City" was in town Wednesday and has a few ideas.
At Martini Park in River North, each Wednesday is girls' night out. The single women of the Windy city get together and much like the women in the cult classic, "Sex and the City" the woes of dating are the same.
"I think Chicago has a lot of attractive men. I think it's more than anything, just finding that compatibility," Chicagoan Laura Munoz said.
Like in the movie "Hitch," many singles are now turning to dating coaches to learn how to attract the opposite sex. Some aren't opposed to the idea.
"It's all about having a good coach," Chicagoan Brad Emanuel said. "You got to have someone you can rely in and give you good input."
Other singles say true love can always be found without a dating coach.
"Our mothers didn't do it," Chicagoan Nicole Thurman said. "Our fathers didn't do it. So I just think, why should we?"
And love has finally arrived for "Sex and the City" author Candace Bushnell. The woman who wrote about the trials and tribulations of single life is now happily married.
CBS 2's Suzanne LeMignot caught up with her at a book signing for her latest release, "One Fifth Avenue," at Manor Nightclub, 642 N. Clark St.
"The women I meet in Chicago, they say, it's the same as in New York. We've got our Mr. Big, we've got our toxic bachelors, so that's when you need your girlfriends," Bushnell.
Bottom line is, Chicago is a good place to find a mate, even though we're ranked #11 in the nation. You just have to put in the extra effort, and not give up.
