Shooting Suspects Found Covered In Silver Paint
Police Captain: 'They Had A Remarkable Resemblance To The Tin Man'
CHICAGO (STNG) ―
Two brothers covered from head to toe in silver paint were arrested Friday after a shooting in a Far South Side apartment building. A woman is also being sought for questioning.
About 12:30 a.m., two brothers in their late 20s and another man in his early 20s were in an apartment at 355 E. Kensington Ave. doing rehab work and painting. A woman, who allegedly has a history of prostitution, was also at the apartment, according to a Calumet District police captain.
An argument began about the woman and one of the brothers pulled a gun and tried to shoot the man in his early 20s. Instead, he accidentally shot himself in the leg.
The man he was trying to shoot picked up a gallon of silver paint and threw it on the gunman and his brother in self-defense. Covered in paint, the shooter then took aim again, this time striking the man in the leg.
"The two guys get doused with paint and they get in a car and drive away. Police see them driving down the street in this unusual condition -- all you could see was their eyes,'' the captain said. "They had a remarkable resemblance to the Tin Man."
Police attempted to stop the car at 115th Street and Front Avenue, but the car took off and crashed into a fire plug at 113th Street and Front Avenue. After the crash, the men, covered in paint, ran, the captain said.
The man who was shot in the leg was driving the car and trouble running from police. The brother riding in the front passenger seat had a reported 9-mm handgun and cocaine on him when apprehended by police, according to the captain, who said the inside of the car was also covered in paint.
The brothers were charged with aggravated battery, unlawful use of a weapon and possession of a controlled substance.
Both men who were shot were treated and released from Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, the captain said.
Court information and the brothers' names were not immediately available.
Police are still looking for the woman early Wednesday for questioning.
