3rd Teen Charged In Shooting Death Of 10-Year-Old

CHICAGO (CBS) ― A 17-year-old boy was charged Tuesday with murder in the death of 10-year-old Arthur Jones, making him the third teen charged in the gang-related shooting.

Lesean Jackson is charged with one count of first-degree murder, Cook County State's Attorney's office spokesman Andy Conklin said. However, investigators say there may be another triggerman.

"The information we have from witnesses and videotape surveillance confirms there were additional shooters," Commander Patricia Walsh said.

"A weapon has not been recovered, but two weapons have been described as being an automatic and a revolver," Deputy Police Supt. Hiram Grau said.

An alleged 14-year-old accomplice was charged as a juvenile Saturday, while Steven McCaskill, 17, was charged as an adult.

Prosecutors allege McCaskill went to his grandmother's home and retrieved the gun used in the shooting. Police said he admitted "passing the weapon." McCaskill was ordered held on $500,000 bond during a hearing Saturday. He allegedly passed the gun to the 14-year-old, who passed it to Jackson, Conklin said.

Police say Jackson turned himself into police due to pressure by the community.

Police Supt. Dana Starks said the shooting was "a result of gang interaction" and that Jones was not involved.

McCaskill is allegedly a member of the Black P Stones who were having a dispute with the Gangster Disciples when gunfire began, police said.

Neighbors said Jones and his friends were walking to a fast-food restaurant about 4:35 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 17, when he was hit by gunfire in the 700 block of W. Garfield Blvd.

Jones, of Chicago, was pronounced dead at 5:05 p.m. at University of Chicago Comer Children's Hospital, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.

CBS 2's Dana Kozlov and the STNG wire contributed to this report.
