The FBI is asking for the public's help in finding a serial bank robber dubbed the "45 Second Bandit" because that's how long he gives bank employees to comply with his demands for cash.
The man is suspected of robbing at least four bank branches on the Northwest Side since October. The most recent theft occurred on Nov. 24 when the suspect robbed the Bank of America branch at 5466 N. Milwaukee Ave., according to a release from the FBI.
In that robbery, according to witnesses, the man approached a teller and put a demand note on the counter. He told the teller it was a robbery, and ordered her to place the cash from her drawer on the counter. The robber claimed he was armed and threatened the teller with harm if his demand was not met with 45 seconds.
Other thefts he is suspected of committing include the Nov. 10 robbery of the Liberty Bank branch at 6210 N. Milwaukee Ave., the Oct. 31 robbery of the Citizens Bank branch at 5700 N. Central Ave., and the robbery of the Chase Bank branch at 5813 N. Milwaukee Ave. on Oct. 20, the release said.
The "45 Second Bandit" is described as a white male, 20 to 25, between 5-foot-5 and 5-foot-9 with a slim build and shoulder-length dark brown hair.
Anyone with information about the robberies is asked to call the Chicago FBI office at (312) 421-6700.
