Third Trial Coming For Sears Tower Plot Suspects

2 Trials Have Already Ended In Hung Juries

MIAMI (AP) ― Despite two mistrials, federal prosecutors in Miami say they'll try a third time to convict six men accused of scheming with al-Qaida to toppleĀ the Sears Tower and bomb FBI offices.

The decision was announced at a hearing Wednesday before U.S. District Judge Joan Lenard.

The judge declared a mistrial last week in the second trial because jurors couldn't agree on any verdicts. The first trial in the "Liberty City Seven" case ended the same way in December, except that one defendant was acquitted.

It isn't immediately clear when the third trial would begin. Defense attorneys plan to seek bail for several of the men, who have been in custody since their highly publicized June 2006 arrests.
