Sears Tower Becomes Willis Tower Next Month

Willis Group CEO: People Can Call It 'Big Willie' For All He Cares

CHICAGO (CBS) ― Sears, Roebuck & Company hasn't been in the Sears Tower since 1992, but to call the nation's tallest building by any other name was unthinkable – until now.

The name change to the Willis Tower takes effect next month.

Willis Chief Executive Officer Joe Plumeri tells the Chicago Tribune that he wishes the name change transition had been handled a little more smoothly.

As it is, most people say they will continue calling the building the Sears Tower even after the name change takes effect in July.

Plumeri told the Chicago Tribune that people can call the building anything they want, even "the Big Willie," but the deal has already done wonders for name recognition at Willis Group Holdings Ltd.
