47 Arrested After Fight At High School
CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) ―
Forty-seven people were arrested after a large fight Friday morning inside Crane High School on the Near West Side.
A male student suffered a chipped tooth in the incident, but no other injuries were reported.
The gang-related fight between two groups of students started at about 10 a.m. on the third floor of the school at 2245 W. Jackson Blvd., according to Chicago Public Schools spokesman Malon Edwards.
The school was placed on lockdown immediately after the fight, with no one allowed inside or outside until 11 a.m.
Police arrested 47 people who have been charged with mob action and reckless conduct, Edwards said. He did not know whether all those arrested were students.
The principal indicated that no weapons were involved and one student, who chipped his tooth, was the only injury reported. The boy was transported to a hospital as a precaution.
The principal indicated it was likely an "escalation of an incident that happened off campus the previous weekend between rival gangs," Edwards said.
Disciplinary action against the students involved is pending.
