Shots Fired At School Bus In Chicago, 3 Hurt
Shattered Glass Injures 3 Students
CHICAGO (CBS) ―
Three sixth-grade students were minorly injured by shattered glass when the school bus they were riding from a community service project was shot at on the Near Southwest Side.
The shooting occurred at 11:12 a.m. at 2257 W. Cermak, near Leavitt, in the Pilsen neighborhood, said CPS Security Director Andres Durbak. Police said the shooter was outside the bus.
The 27 students, from the Joslin Campus of the Perspectives Charter School at 1930 S. Archer Ave., were on their way back from a field trip, CPS spokeswoman Anitra Schulte said. "They had been out on a community service project."
All the students on the bus were sixth-graders, Schulte said, and they were not the intended targets.
The bus is believed to have gotten caught in a gang shooting, according to police Commander Roberto Zavalo.
