Winter To Make A Comeback In Chicago This Weekend

Snow To Fall On Saturday; 2-3 Inches Possible In Some Areas

CHICAGO (CBS) ― Chicago has been spoiled this March by mild temperatures and a St. Patrick's Day with temperatures in the 70s, but winter will make a comeback on Saturday with 2-3 inches of snow in some areas.

The high for Friday is 44 degrees, but temperatures are expected to drop off as the weekend arrives. Rain in the area during the early part of Saturday is expected to turn into snow after 1 p.m., when wind gusts could be as high as 30 mph, the National Weather Service said.

The snow is expected to continue through the night and could last until early Sunday afternoon.

Little or no accumulation is expected in the immediate Chicago area, but some northwest suburban areas, 2 to 3 inches of snow may fall, CBS 2's Ed Curran reported.

In southern Wisconsin, up to 6 inches of snow are likely.

But the snow is not severe enough to warrant any winter storm watches or weather advisories.

Springtime snowstorms are hardly out of the ordinary in Chicago. The record for total snowfall in March is 23.1 inches in 1926. The record for total snowfall in April is 13.6 inches, back in 1938.

CBS 2's Ed Curran and the STNG Wire contributed to this report.
