Sara Lee To Close South Side Meat Processing Plant

Consumer Products Company To Leave Kosher Meat Business, Drop 4 Brands

CHICAGO (CBS) ― Downers Grove-based Sara Lee Corp. will cut 185 jobs when it closes its meat processing plant in the South Side's Bridgeport neighborhood.

The company is closing its meat processing plant at 1000 W. Pershing Rd., as well as an outlet store adjacent to the facility.

Sara Lee is leaving the kosher meat business, and will drop its Best's Kosher, Sinai Kosher, Shofar and Wilno brands, according to Crain's Chicago Business.

The plant will be closed Jan. 30, then put up for sale.
