Randy Salerno's Friend Charged In Fatal Crash

Salerno Family Says They Did Not Want Scott Hirschey Charged

CHICAGO (CBS) ― The boyhood friend of CBS 2 morning news anchor Randy Salerno has been formally charged Tuesday night with homicide by intoxicated use of a vehicle.

Scott Hirschey was released from the hospital Tuesday afternoon, and went to the funeral home at night for Salerno's visitation.

Hundreds of friends and family members Tuesday gathered at the Davenport Funeral Home in Crystal Lake to pay their last respects.

Salerno was a passenger on a snowmobile driven by Hirschey last Thursday night when they crashed into trees in northern Wisconsin.

Salerno's family has said they don't want to see Hirschey prosecuted in the case; that would be the last thing Salerno would want.

Wednesday is Salerno's funeral, and CBS 2 invites you to join us in remembering his life. We'll be carrying Salerno's funeral live on cbs2chicago.com beginning at 11 a.m.
