CHICAGO (CBS) ― Two men were hospitalized after they were mugged only blocks from each other early Monday in the Roscoe Village neighborhood.

Both attacks occurred between 4 a.m. and 5 a.m. Police said it was not known if they were connected, nor if they are linked to other recent muggings farther east in Boystown and southeast in Lincoln Park.

At 2058 W. Belmont Ave., a man delivering newspapers was beaten up by two men. It was not known if the attackers took anything from the man who remained hospitalized at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, according to police.

His wallet and backpack were taken in the incident according to police who said after the attack, the man came back home and he had been bleeding from the head and nose.

The man from the Hoyne attack was injured remained hospitalized as of 7:20 a.m. also at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center where he was receiving stitches. Police were not able to speak with him yet to get a description of the suspect or suspects.

The victims told police they did not know if their attackers got out of a car, or how they first appeared. There was little suspect description available Monday morning.

Also Monday, a message was broadcast on Citywide Police radio Monday for officers to be on the lookout for two men and a woman -- between 23 and 26, black and of average height and weight -- suspected in the theft of a minivan in an armed robbery at 3031 N. Damen Ave. about 3:30 a.m.

The stolen vehicle, a white Nissan Quest , was followed by a gray, newer Nissan Altima headed north on Damen toward Belmont Avenue, according to the message.

This incident was possibly related to a mugging that occurred a few blocks away, according to the Citywide alert.
