Bond Set For 2 Charged In Rogers Park Robberies

CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) ― Bond was set at $250,000 for two men charged in two back-to-back armed robberies and one armed robbery attempt Friday night in Rogers Park2, authorities said.

Michael Turner, 19, of the 7700 block of South Lowe Avenue, Calvin Bayliss, 22, of the 6300 block of North Lakewood Avenue, and a 15-year-old boy were each charged with two counts of armed robbery with a firearm and one count of attempted armed robbery with a firearm at 8 a.m. Saturday, according to a press release from Chicago Police News Affairs.

Just before 9 p.m. Friday, Rogers Park District officers and members of the Belmont Area Gang Enforcement team responded to a call of an armed robbery in the 6700 block of North Lakewood Avenue, the release said.

A 34-year-old man was robbed by three male offenders, according to the release. These offenders approached the victim in front of his house, produced a handgun, demanded his property and fled on foot.

Minutes later, the same group committed an additional robbery and an attempted robbery just around the corner in the 1200 block of West Columbia Avenue, the release said. Two men, 20- and 34-years-old, were approached in the same manner as the first victim.

Armed with the description of the wanted offenders, officers found them walking nearby. Officers attempted to stop them, but they ran. All three offenders were apprehended after a short foot chase and detained, according to the release.

The three offenders were arrested after a positive identification was made by all three separate victims. The victims' proceeds were recovered and returned, according to the release. The weapon used in the robberies was not found.

Bond was set at $250,000 for both Turner and Bayliss, according to a spokesman from Cook County State's Attorney's office. Both men are due back in court for a preliminary hearing Tuesday in Violence Court (Br. 66).

The fifteen-year-old will appear at Central Bond Court (Br. 1) Tuesday, the spokesman said.
