Republic Windows And Doors Employees Get Checks

Laid off workers peer through the doors of the their abruptly shuttered factory where they staged a sit-in on Dec. 5, 2008, demanding that the bank which cut off credit to the Chicago company free up some financing so they can be paid their final wages.

Republic Windows and Doors employees made national headlines when laid-off workers took turns occupying the factory, vowing to stay until they receive assurances of severance and accrued vacation pay.
The factory closed after Bank of America canceled its financing.
Republic Windows & Doors, union leaders and Bank of America forged an agreement last week which allowed each former Republic employee to get eight weeks salary, all accrued vacation pay and two months paid health care.
