William Brandt Jr., president and CEO of Development Specialists Inc., hands out settlement checks to the more than 250 Republic Windows and Doors employees Friday.

Republic Windows and Doors employees made national headlines when laid-off workers took turns occupying the factory, vowing to stay until they receive assurances of severance and accrued vacation pay.

The factory closed after Bank of America canceled its financing.

Republic Windows & Doors, union leaders and Bank of America forged an agreement last week which allowed each former Republic employee to get eight weeks salary, all accrued vacation pay and two months paid health care.
