Red Line Trains Rerouted Through Downtown
CHICAGO (STNG) ―
Red Line customers should allow extra travel time Monday night and Tuesday morning as construction work will cause southbound trains to be rerouted from the subway.
Southbound Red Line trains normally operating through the subway between the Fullerton and Cermak/Chinatown stations will be rerouted to the elevated tracks because of construction from 9 p.m. Monday until 5 a.m. Tuesday, according to a CTA release.
Rerouted trains will stop at the following elevated stations: Armitage, Sedgwick, Chicago/Franklin, Merchandise Mart, Clark/Lake, State/Lake, Randolph/Wabash, Madison/Wabash, Adams/Wabash and Roosevelt/Wabash, the CTA said. The Merchandise Mart station is available as an exit only from 1 a.m. to 5 a.m.
Customers wishing to travel southbound from downtown stations can access southbound Red Line trains at any of the elevated stations along Lake or Wabash streets, the CTA said. Customers wishing to travel southbound from the North/Clybourn, Clark/Division, Chicago or Grand Red Line stations can board a northbound train and exit at Fullerton to board southbound Red Line trains.
Customers traveling southbound to downtown should exit Red Line trains at any elevated station along Lake or Wabash streets, the CTA said.
Southbound customers wishing to exit at the North/Clybourn, Clark/Division, Chicago or Grand stations should travel to the State/Lake elevated station and exit to the Lake Street Red Line subway station to board a northbound Red Line train, the CTA said. Southbound customers are advised to allow extra travel time.
Southbound trains will operate normally between the Howard and Fullerton stations and between the Cermak/Chinatown and 95th Street stations. Northbound service will not be affected.
