Chicago police are investigating the early morning robbery and sexual assault of a woman on the North/Clybourn CTA Red Line platform earlier this month. The victim was waiting for the train on the CTA Platform at about 3 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 14, according to an alert from Belmont Area detectives.
CBS 2's Pamela Jones reports that police say the woman was sexually assaulted at the CTA red line station located at 1599 N. Clybourn. Police have released an image of the alleged attacker. He is described as a black male in his late 20s or early 30s, 5-foot-10 with a slim build and a missing front tooth. He has very short hair, brown eyes and a medium complexion. He was wearing a dark jacket with stripes on the sleeves, a turtleneck, blue jeans and black shoes.
Detectives say the attack happened on November 14 at about 3 a.m. A woman was in the subway waiting for a train when police say the man approached. Police say the man came up behind the alleged victim and snatched her cell phone from her. He offered to return it in exchange for sexual favors
It's the kind of crime that has female commuters on edge.
"I used to work until 11 p.m. So I would be on the platform around, as late as 11:30 p.m. waiting for the train or whatever," a female commuter said. "And you do see the cameras up or whatever but you really don't know. And I would be hoping that I would be on the train with some other people. There were a lot of times that I would be down there by myself."
This feeling was shared by another woman as she left the station tonight.
She'd like to see more photos of the man police are looking for in this attack placed at the station so riders can be aware.
"I mean, it's definitely scary. You know, I mean I take the train a lot. Usually really late at night I'm usually in a cab but not always," she said. "You want to know that people are looking out for you when you're down there."
Anyone recognizing the photo or having information should contact the Belmont Area Homicide/Gang Crime/Sex Unit at (312) 744-8261.
