Girl Spots Man She Says Raped Her In March
Alleged Rapist Immediately Arrested, Charged
CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) ―
A young rape victim helped catch her own attacker when she saw him at a Dunkin Donuts eight months after the assault, prosecutors said Wednesday.
Tyrone Tolliver, 36, faces charges of aggravated criminal sexual assault for allegedly raping the 16-year-old girl March 4.
The victim had been waiting at a bus stop in the 8500 block of South Ashland when Tolliver pulled up in his car, according to Assistant State's Attorney Cynthia Erno. "The defendant told the victim to get into his car. The victim refused," Erno said.
Tolliver pulled a gun and forced the victim into his car, Erno said. He drove her to the 8400 block of South Justine, where he raped her, she said. Afterward, he dropped her off in a CVS parking lot and "threatened to kill her if she told anyone what had happened," Erno said.
The victim immediately told her sister about the assault, and they went to police. The victim gave a detailed description of the assailant and his car, Erno said.
On Monday, the victim was in a Dunkin Donuts and recognized Tolliver. She then saw him get into the car in which she had been raped, Erno said. She immediately told police, who arrested Tolliver in the parking lot.
Tolliver is an assistant manager at a Family Dollar Store and also works a security job, said assistant public defender Sandra Bennewitz. He has a previous felony drug conviction and four misdemeanor convictions, according to prosecutors. Bond was set at $275,000.
