Brother Of Man Slain Near Midway Also Stabbed

CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) ― Police are investigating a connection between the fatal stabbing of a man found in an alley near Midway Airport late Friday and the critical wounding of another man -- his brother -- also found stabbed in the neck about an hour later on the Southwest Side.

Police received a call about a person down in the 6100 block of South Menard Avenue and found the man suffering from a laceration to the throat, according to police News Affairs Officer John Henry. The incident happened about 11:05 p.m. Friday.

That man, George Ramirez, 28, was found dead on the scene by police and was taken to the Stein Institute, where he was pronounced dead at 3:15 a.m. Saturday, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.

An autopsy Saturday revealed George Ramirez suffered multiple stab and incise wounds. George Ramirez lived at 4831 W. 119th St. in Alsip, according to the medical examiner's office, which said George Ramirez was found at 6140 S. Menard Ave. and his death was ruled a homicide.

About hour after George Ramirez was found, his brother, a man in his 20s who shares the Ramirez name and who lived with George Ramirez, was found lying in an alley near the intersection of West 47th Street and South Western Avenue at 2315 W. 47th Street suffering from a stab wound to the neck and possibly other injuries, according to a police source.

"At this time we are looking at them as being connected,'' according to the source, who said a resident of the area discovered the body and called police.

George Ramirez was also found lying in an alley by a "good neighbor,'' according to the source, who said that the brother was taken to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County where he remains in critical condition early Monday.

Henry said George Ramirez's attacker was unknown.

Wentworth Area detectives are investigating both stabbings and no one was in custody early Monday for either incident.
