Prison Bus Breaks Down On Stevenson
BURR RIDGE, Ill. (Sun-Times Media Wire) ―
Prisoners headed to Joliet's Stateville Correction Center had a small detour Tuesday morning when their bus broke down on the Stevenson Expressway near west suburban Burr Ridge.
The bus, which was carrying Cook County Jail inmates, broke down just before 9 a.m., Cook County Sheriff's office spokesman Steve Patterson said. The inmates had been sentenced to prison terms and were on their way to Stateville in Joliet.
State Police said the incident happened in the southbound lanes of the Stevenson (I-55) near the Kingery Road exit. Lanes near the exit were closed from 9:12-9:31 a.m. until a new bus arrived to transfer the inmates.
"Another bus came over and it was an easy transfer," Patterson said.
