A pregnant woman was shot in the back Saturday night while trick-or-treating with children in the Northwest Side's Avondale neighborhood.
Police said the shooting is possibly gang-related, and the woman does not appear to be the intended target.
The 20-year-old woman, who is eight months pregnant, was walking on North Monticello Avenue, trick-or-treating with her child and two nieces when she was shot in the back about 7 p.m. near West Belmont Avenue, police said.
CBS 2's Dana Kozlov reports that despite being shot, the pregnant victim is in good condition, and so is her baby.
Witnesses say 20-year-old Elia Betancourt was shot in the back or side, near her ribs as she was trick-or-treating on the 3100 block of North Monticello.
None of the children with her at the time were hurt, which is especially fortunate because witnesses say there was a blast of gunfire.
Those who live near the corner of Belmont and Monticello say the shootings were a result of a gang-related argument or fight.
Police say an 18-year-old man was also shot as he was running from the gunman. Sources say he's going to be OK, too.
Several shell casings were found in the alley nearby, and all of this happened during prime trick-or-treating time.
Both Betancourt and the 18-year-old man, who is a gang member, according to police, are at Illinois Masonic Hospital.
No one is in custody, and police say the teenage victim told them he didn't see the person who shot him.
CBS 2's Dana Kozlov and the STNG Wire contributed to this report.
