Man Charged In Murder Of Pregnant Woman

Police: Carlos S. Hensley Shot Kiana Green Dead, Left Man Wounded

CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) ― A 30-year-old man was charged Thursday with fatally shooting a pregnant woman and injuring another man at a stop light on the in the Calumet Heights neighborhood last month.

Carlos S. Hensley of 9200 South Blackstone Avenue was charged with one count each of first-degree murder and attempted first-degree murder, according to police News Affairs Officer John Henry. Hensley is scheduled to appear for a bond hearing in Violence Court (Br. 66) later Thursday.

Hensley is accused of fatally shooting Kiana Green, 21, and injuring a 27-year-old man on May 24 in the 9300 block of South Colfax Avenue. Green died of her injuries on May 26.

Green was inside a car when Hensley allegedly walked up to the car -- stopped at a stoplight on South Colfax Avenue -- and fired multiple shots into the vehicle about 11:20 p.m. Saturday, police said.

Green, 21, of 9231 S. Chappel Ave., was pronounced dead at 2:05 p.m. May 26 at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.

Green died from a gunshot wound to the head, an autopsy determined. Her death was ruled a homicide, according to the medical examiner's office.

Green was initially taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn in critical condition. The 27-year-old man, who was also in the car, suffered gunshot wounds to the chest and arm and was taken to Christ Medical Center, police said.

Family members confirmed Green's pregnancy.

The gunman fled on foot after the shooting.
