Roscoe Village Man Charged After Standoff

Bond Set At $100,000

CHICAGO (STNG) ― A 25-year-old man who was engaged in a standoff with police in the North Side Roscoe Village neighborhood Saturday afternoon has been charged with drug and firearms violations, police said.

Bond was set at $100,000.

About 2:20 p.m., police responded to a report of a man with a gun in the 2100 block of West Fletcher Street. Upon arrival, the man threatened to shoot the police and shut the door, police News Affairs Officer JoAnn Taylor said.

The police Hostage Barricade Terrorist Unit was called to the scene and the ensuing standoff lasted more than three hours but ended peacefully with the man was taken into police custody, Taylor said. Two firearms and narcotics -- with a total estimated street value of $450 -- were recovered from the home, police said.

The man, Michael Grace, of 2111 W. Fletcher St., the address where the standoff occurred, has been charged with two counts of having unregistered firearms, one count of possession of cannabis and three counts of possession of a controlled substance. The first two charges are misdemeanors, the possession charges are felonies.

Grace is scheduled to appear for a bond hearing at noon Sunday at the Cook County Criminal Courthouse.
