Man Shot By Police On City's Southeast Side

Police: Man Bailed From Curbed Vehicle, Pointed Weapon At Officer

CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) ― A man is in serious condition after being shot by a police officer Friday evening in the Southeast Side's South Chicago neighborhood.

An adult male was shot by police at 2046 E. 83rd St., Independent Police Review Authority spokesman Mark Payne said.

The shooting happened about 5:55 p.m., according to police News Affairs.

Officers, on routine patrol, observed a vehicle with an expired license plate and pulled the driver over, police said.

When an officer approached the car, a man exited the vehicle and fled on foot. During the chase, the armed man stopped and pointed a weapon at an officer, police said.

The officer then discharged his weapon, police said.

Police recovered a weapon from the scene, and the man was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn in serious condition.

The Independent Police Review Authority is investigating the shooting.
