A DeKalb man has been charged with attempted murder after he allegedly fired shots at Chicago Police Sunday morning in the West Side's Lawndale neighborhood.
Willie White, 26, of 700 block of Russell Road in DeKalb, was charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault of a police officer and unlawful use of a weapon by a felon, according to police. White is scheduled to appear in bond court later Thursday.
Police News Affairs Officer Robert Perez said White went to the Harrison Area Headquarters and turned himself in to detectives on Monday.
At 10 a.m. Sunday, shots were fired at an officer after police responded to a call of a man with a gun at 1517 S. Ridgeway Ave., according to Ogden District police, who said the officer was not struck by gunfire.
A weapon was recovered at 1510 S. Lawndale Ave. in a rear yard. No shots were fired by police.
Sunday night police had identified the suspect -- allegedly White -- and a manhunt was under way, with officers hitting a number of his known hangouts. Police also said he may have been attempting to hide out with his girlfriend, who lives in DeKalb.
