Chicago Police Sgt. Injured In Fatal Collision
CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) ―
A woman died Saturday evening after allegedly disregarding a stop sign and crashing into an off-duty Chicago Police sergeant's sport utility vehicle on the Southwest Side.
About 2:15 p.m., the woman was eastbound in her Kia Rio on 112th Street when she allegedly disregarded a stop sign at Kedzie Avenue, police News Affairs Officer Amina Greer said, citing preliminary information.
The woman's vehicle collided with a Dodge Durango being driven by an off-duty police sergeant who was traveling south on Kedzie, Greer said.
Carol Jacob, 65, of the 11207 S. Sawyer Ave., was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn where she was pronounced dead at 6:11 p.m., the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office said.
Jacob had to be extricated from a vehicle, a police source said.
The police officer suffered a leg injury and was treated and released from Little Company of Mary Hospital in Evergreen Park, police said.
There were no other passengers in either car.
No citations are expected, Greer said.
