$2M Bond For 2 Charged In Murder At S. Side Party

Victim's Brother Was Shot Dead In Separate Incident Last Month

CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) ― Two males -– including a juvenile –- were each ordered held on $2 million bond Monday after they were charged with the murder of a man killed Friday night at a South Side party. The victim was the brother of teenager slain in a triple-murder last month.

Tyrese Castleberry, 17, of the 6600 block of S. St. Lawrence Ave., and a 15-year-old male juvenile were each charged with first-degree murder in the shooting that occurred Friday about 11:20 p.m. during an argument at a party in the 3200 block of E. 92nd St., according to a release from police News Affairs.

Carnell Pitts, 18, of 9602 S. Hoxie Ave., was pronounced dead at 11:55 p.m. at Advocate Trinity Hospital, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office. A Saturday autopsy determined Pitts died of multiple gunshot wounds and his death was ruled a homicide, the medical examiner's office said.

Carnell Pitts was the older brother of 17-year-old Kendrick Pitts, also of 9602 S. Hoxie Ave., who was fatally shot during a Feb. 20 triple-murder.

Both brothers attended Bowen High School at 2710 E. 89th St., but Carnell graduated in 2008, said Monique Bond, spokeswoman for new Chicago Public Schools CEO Ron Huberman.

Castleberry and the juvenile allegedly fled after the shooting and officers canvassing the area recovered two small caliber handguns inside of a building as they conducted their search. It was undetermined at the time of recovery whether the weapons used were used in the incident.
