Save Up To $500 A Year On Your Phone Bills
Stretch Your Dollar With A Little Help At A Phone Bill Clinic
CHICAGO (CBS) ―
You could save up to $500 a year on your phone bills. As CBS 2's Anne State reports, there's a phone clinic that can help you stretch your dollar.
Marlene Sullivan sensed she was overpaying for phone service, but didn't know what to do.
"I thought I would come down here and talk to people who do know," Sullivan said.
The Phone Bill Clinic is run by the Citizens Utility Board (CUB).
"If you're paying more than $25 a month for phone service, you're probably paying too much," said CUB Executive Director David Kolata.
Jim Chilsen went through Sullivan's phone bill line by line. She was paying 12 cents a minute for long distance. He recommended that she switch to a plan that would be just 2 to 3 cents a minute.
"That's about $18, $19 a month, so $216 a year," Chilsen said of the savings.
He also told her she could save another $10 a month by switching to a prepaid cell phone service.
CUB says, on average, people can save $200 a year on their home phones and another $300 on cell phones.
If you can't go to a clinic, CUB can help by phone at (800) 669-5556.
