Frozen Hydrants Hamper Suburban Fire Response

But No Reported Injuries In Blaze

PHOENIX, Ill. (Sun-Times Media Wire) ― Frozen hydrants and below zero temperatures have hampered firefighting efforts Thursday night in south suburban Phoenix.

A fire at 608 Belle Ct. was reported about 8:30 p.m. but firefighters from around the region remained at the scene at 10 p.m. due to a problem with frozen hydrants, according to a Homewood Fire Dept. firefighter.

Homewood firefighters were called to the scene shortly after the fire was called, the firefighter said.

According to unconfirmed fire dispatch reports, the fire in a 1 1/2-story house prompted a task force and an extra-alarm response due to the frozen hydrants.

No one was reported injured in the blaze.
