Two cabs collided in the heart of the Loop early Wednesday, and one was crashing into Petterino's restaurant.
This is the second time that a cab has crashed into the restaurant at 150 N. Dearborn St. in barely a month.
At 5:03 a.m., a cab traveling west on Randolph Sttreet struck another cab heading northbound on Dearborn Street, sending the northbound cab into the front of Petterino's.
A front plate glass window was destroyed, and planters were pushed up against the building.
The passenger in the westbound Randolph cab was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, and treated and released. The drivers of both cabs were uninjured.
The driver of the westbound Randolph cab was cited for driving without insurance but not other citations were issued. Both cab drivers claim the other ran a red light, but police say they will never know who may be at fault.
Police and a city tow truck were on the scene as of just after 6 a.m.
Petterino's was also hit by a cab on April 14. On that occasion, the Ace taxi struck a pair of French doors on the east side of the downtown eatery.
The cab was taking two passengers to the Daley Center courthouse across the street, and the passengers both hit their heads on the partition between the front and back seats of the cab. But no one at Petterino's was injured in the incident last month, and the restaurant was able to open as usual later that afternoon.
