Missing Barrel Investigated In Peterson Case

Authorities Checking On Any Possible Links Between Missing Container And Disappearance Of Stacy Peterson

BOLINGBROOK, Ill. (CBS) ― In the latest bizarre twist in the Peterson investigation authorities are reportedly looking into the disappearance of a barrel from the family's home, and if that has any connection with the disappearance of Stacy Peterson.

In the days before Stacy Peterson disappeared her sister, Cassandra Cales, noticed a large blue barrel in the Peterson garage. Cales asked her sister about it, who said it was a 30-gallon drum of chlorine they needed to clean their pool. Now, sources say, that barrel is missing, and police want to know why.

As CBS 2 West Suburban Bureau Chief Mike Puccinelli reports, sources say police know who helped Drew Peterson load a blue barrel into his truck on the same day Stacy Peterson, was last seen alive. But Illinois state police wouldn't confirm the story, and neither would Drew Peterson. Sources say the two removed the barrel from an upstairs bedroom where, allegedly, a nightstand later turned up missing.

Sources also say the man who allegedly assisted Drew tried to kill himself just days after he helped bring the barrel downstairs so it could be loaded into Drew's sport-utility vehicle. Sources say the man is a relative, but police will not confirm that.

Stacy's friend and neighbor, Sharon Bychowski, says Drew did visit someone in the hospital a few days after Stacy disappeared.

"He needed me to watch the kids if I could for about an hour and a half; he was going to go visit a relative that had tried to commit suicide," Bychowski said.

Bychowski says she asked Drew about that relative's wellbeing when he returned from the hospital later.

"I did ask him, I said, 'how is your relative,' and he said, 'What? Oh, he's OK, he just had some issues, lost his family, lost his job, you know,'" Bychowski said.

She also says police asked her about a barrel immediately after Stacy disappeared.

"The officers when they were searching his home, asked me if I knew anything about a blue, what they called, a container," Bychowski said.

Searchers have found more than 10 blue barrels since Stacy disappeared more than a month ago, So far there's been no sign of the missing mother of two.

Meanwhile sources say police want Michael Robinson, a longtime friend of Drew Peterson's, to take a polygraph.

When asked why he would not take the polygraph, Robinson said, "I can tell you that when they start invading my personal life then I'm not going to take the polygraph."
