Man Accused Of Killing Fiancée
PARK FOREST, Ill. (Sun-Times Media Wire) ―
A man is in police custody Thursday after his fiancée allegedly identified him shortly before she died as the man who shot her Wednesday in her south suburban home.
Police were called to a home at 329 Nokomis Street in Park Forest for multiple reports of shots fired. Officers first located Trolus Pickett, 43, in the living room of the home wearing blood-soaked clothing. A .45-caliber semi-automatic handgun was discovered on the living room floor, according to a release from Park Forest police.
As police continued searching, 33-year-old Belissa Gourdine of the Nokomis Street address was found conscious in a bedroom suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. She made statements identifying Pickett as her shooter, the release said.
She was lying on the floor with gunshot wounds to the chest, abdomen and buttocks, authorities said. At least eight shell casings from the weapon were found at a home next door.
Gourdine, Pickett's fiancée, was taken to St. James Hospital and Health Centers in Olympia Fields, where she died at 7:55 p.m., the Cook County Medical Examiner's office said.
An autopsy conducted Thursday determined Gourdine died of multiple gunshot wounds and her death was ruled a homicide, the medical examiner's office said.
Pickett was treated at St. James Hospital for lacerations to his right hand and was released to police custody at 10 p.m. Wednesday.
No charges had been filed as of 3 p.m. Thursday. The Park Forest Police Investigations Unit and Cook County State's Attorney's Office continue to investigate.
