Park District To Expand Recycling Program

2 Trucks To Be Devoted To Collecting Recyclables

CHICAGO (STNG) ― The Chicago Park District will expand its recycling program to all its city parks and has dedicated two trucks to focus on picking up recyclable materials.

The park district has purchased two new types of weighted receptacles made of 100-percent recycled content and placed them throughout the parks. The blue receptacles are for recycled materials, and the green receptacles are for all other, non-recyclable trash, the release said.

In addition to the new separate recycling and waste containers, the park district has dedicated recycling trucks to pick up recyclables throughout the district. One recycling truck will be dedicated to the lakefront and a separate recycling truck for all other locations, the release said.

"We are very excited to implement a separate container, separate pick-up recycling program in parks across Chicago," said Ellen Sargent, Chicago Park District Deputy Director of Natural Resources. "This program is part of our greening initiative and hope this will help encourage park patrons to act in a more environmentally friendly way while enjoying the parks."
