Suspicious Package Found During O'Hare Drill
Terminal Not Evacuated, But Traffic Backs Up On I-190
CHICAGO (CBS) ―
A security drill at O'Hare International Airport turned into a real-life scare Thursday when authorities found a suspicious package in the terminal.
Federal, state and city agencies conducted a training exercise at O'Hare Thursday, beginning at 11:30 a.m.
Around noon, a package was discovered in Terminal 2, police said. A Fire Department official said the package was not an explosive, but refused to provide more details.
The scene had been secured as of 2 p.m.
Traffic going into O'Hare on Interstate 190 was extremely heavy early Thursday afternoon, with police and fire presence at the terminal.
Traffic was shut down for a while after the package was discovered, but was reopened around 1:35 p.m.
The terminal was not evacuated and flight service was not disrupted, said Karen Pride, spokeswoman for Chicago's Department of Aviation.
