O'Hare Starbucks Closed For Fly Infestation
CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) ―
City inspectors closed a Starbucks at O'Hare Airport on Friday for failing to correct a problem with flying insects.
Mayor Daley's Dumpster Task Force closed the coffee shop in Terminal Two, 11601 Touhy Ave., for failing to eliminate the problem, which had been pointed out during a previous visit, according to a release from the city Dept. of Streets & Sanitation.
Inspectors first detected a problem with flying insects when they inspected the Starbucks on June 4th and ordered management to correct the pest problems within five days or face closure, the release said.
But when inspectors returned on Friday and spotted more than 40 flies on places such as the ceiling, walls and near a sink drain, the Starbucks was closed after being cited for the critical violations of failing to correct a serious violation and for inadequate pest control, the release said.
A ticket was also issued to Host Co. International for failing to properly maintain the garbage dumpster used by the coffee shop.
"The onsite managers had the opportunity to keep this business up and running but they failed to correct their problems, which resulted in closure," Josie Cruz, deputy commissioner of Streets & San's Bureau of Rodent Control, said in the release. "Before they can reopen, management will have to prove they have revamped their pest control and housekeeping programs, cleaned their business, eliminated pest problem and requested and passed an extensive reinspection."
