The police officer who was caught on tape beating a 15-year-old special education student in Dolton is now behind bars accused of rape.
The security camera video released Tuesday
shows Marshawn Pitts, 15, being thrown against the lockers by Dolton police Officer Christopher Lloyd.
Dolton police confirmed Thursday that the officer in the tape was placed on unpaid administrative leave on the day the beating occurred last May. A police official says the officer later resigned from the department.
Now the Chicago Tribune reports that Lloyd is in a Lake County, Ind., jail, accused of sexually assaulting a woman on Sept. 14.
Lloyd is also being sued by his ex-wife, who claims he gunned down her new husband in February 2008. He was suspended from the Robbins Police Department in connection with that incident, but eventually was hired by the City of Dolton.
In the video of incident involving Pitts, you can see that he gets slammed to the ground and his face smashed into the floor. His nose was broken.
Pitts says he was bleeding.
"All this on the outside of my mouth was busted," he said.
He calls this treatment violent and unnecessary, especially considering he was attending the Academy for Learning High School in Dolton for students like him with Special Education needs.
Marshawn Pitts's attorney Ed Manzke says he has transferred to another school and is planning to file a lawsuit.
The State Board of Education says no one from the school reported the use of forceful restraint to them.
