NIU to Move Temporary Memorial of Shooting Victims

DEKALB, Ill. (AP) ― Northern Illinois University has decided to move a temporary memorial to students killed in a February campus shooting to make it more accessible for those wanting to pay respects.

Members of the NIU faculty say the memorial will be moved by mid-October from Altgeld Hall to the Holmes Student Center on the Dekalb campus. The memorial includes a video, a flag flown at the Pentagon in the school's honor, archived items and letters of support.

A former student opened fire in NIU's Cole Hall on February 14th, killing five students and injuring more than a dozen others before turning the gun on himself.

The Northern Illinois University Memorial Committee has been created to plan a permanent memorial.
