The father of a north suburban man found dead in his home Thursday is being held on $5 million bond after being charged with the fatal stabbing.
Paul Koh, 22, was found dead in his home at 1944 Birch Rd. in Northbrook early Thursday and pronounced dead at Highland Park Hospital in Highland Park at 4:18 a.m. Thursday, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.
Police responded to the home at 3:45 a.m., Northbrook police spokesman Mike Shep said.
Police Chief Charles Wernick said Koh's father, Hyungseok Koh, 56, also of the Birch Road address, was charged Friday with first-degree murder.
Cook County Associate Judge Larry Axelrood ordered Koh held on $5 million bond during a hearing Friday at the Skokie Courthouse.
Wernick said Hyungseok Koh had no prior criminal record.
A Friday autopsy determined Paul Koh died of multiple stab or incise wounds and his death was ruled a homicide, according to a spokesman for the medical examiner's office.
A knife was used as the murder weapon during a domestic argument that "ended tragically,'' Wernick said. The weapon was recovered.
Koh's mother, who was not charged, witnessed the incident, the chief said.
"It was a terrible tragedy. Especially for her [mother]. Her only son is dead at the hands of her husband who is in jail,'' Wernick said.
Koh's Facebook page says he graduated from Glenbrook North High School in 2005 and attended Western Illinois University, where he studied business. He enjoyed skateboarding, golfing, drumming and skydiving, the social networking site said.
At 12:45 a.m. Friday, nearly a dozen messages from friends were posted on the site mourning Koh's loss.
