'North Side Rapist' Convicted Of Second Attack

CHICAGO (STNG) ― A Cook County jury on Wednesday convicted Mario Villa -- the so-called "North Side rapist" -- of raping a 16-year-old girl in her home in 1999.

After the jury deliberated for about 40 minutes, Villa was found guilty of two counts of aggravated criminal sexual assault, according to Tandra Simonton, spokeswoman for the Cook County State's Attorney's office.

Villa, 41, raped the 16-year-old girl in her home on July 5, 1999. He is scheduled to be sentenced by Judge Dennis Porter on July 30, Simonton said.

In March, Porter sentenced Villa to 100 years in prison for the rape of a Lincoln Park woman in February 2004.

Villa has been charged in a total six rape cases, from 1999 to 2004, that followed a pattern: He would sneak in through an open window or door while his victim slept. He then allegedly raped the woman and made her take a shower, prosecutors say.
