North Side Serial Rapist Gets 100 Years
Mario Villa Convicted Of 2004 Sexual Assault, Charged With 2 More
CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) ―
The man dubbed the "North Side rapist" was sentenced to 100 years in prison Friday for the 2004 rape of a woman in her Lincoln Park apartment.
Cook County Judge Dennis J. Porter sentenced Mario Villa to a total of 100 years. He was convicted in February 2008 for breaking into the woman's apartment while she slept and raping her in 2004, according to Tandra Simonton, spokesman for the Cook County State's Attorney's office.
Villa received 30 years each for three counts of sexual assault and 10 years for home invasion, with the sentences to be served consecutively, Simonton said.
The now 27-year-old victim testified at Villa's jury trial in February, growing tearful as she described being awakened by a noise in her apartment in the 2000 block of North Cleveland.
"I couldn't move, I was so scared," she said.
During the rape, "he made a comment that I'm pretty, and why didn't I have a boyfriend," the woman said.
After the intruder ordered her into the shower, the woman heard him leave, she said. She got out of the shower and called 911. She later discovered her cell phone and $120 were missing.
Two other women also testified Villa broke into their apartments while they were sleeping, raped them and ordered them into the shower.
Villa, of the 4300 block of South Sawyer, has also been charged with those nearly identical home invasions and rapes, which took place Oct. 29, 2003, in the 3500 block of North Greenview, and May 26, 2002, in the 1300 block of North Greenview.
