Teen Dead, 2 Others Wounded In Lawndale Shooting

No One In Custody Early Monday

CHICAGO (CBS) ― A 16-year-old boy is dead and two men are wounded following a shooting in the West Side's North Lawndale neighborhood.

Police say shots rang out around 11:30 p.m. Sunday in the 1500 block of South Christiana Avenue.

All three victims were inside a parked vehicle when a "dark-colored vehicle" approached and someone inside fired shots, according to police News Affairs Hector Alfaro.

Sheerrell Williamson, 16, of 3714 S. Indiana Ave., was dead on the scene, according to a spokesman for the Cook County Medical Examiner's office. He suffered a gunshot wound to the head and was found unresponsive on the scene by police, Alfaro said.

Williamson was a 10th grader at Phillips Academy High School, according to Monique Bond, spokeswoman for the Chicago Public Schools. The school is located at 244 E. Pershing Rd.

The two survivors were a man in his 20s who suffered a gunshot wound to the right side of his body and who was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in serious condition and an 18-year-old man who was shot in the back and taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in serious condition, Alfaro said.

After he was shot, the 18-year-old ran to the 1500 block of South Kedzie Avenue where police found him, according to the officer.

Police issued a flier Monday asking for the public's help in gaining information into the shooting. No one was in custody at 11 a.m. and anyone with information is asked to call Harrison Area detectives at (312) 746-8252.
