Noose Found At South Side Police Station

CHICAGO (STNG) ― A noose was found hanging outside a South Side police station early Monday prompting an investigation by the city and Chicago Police.

The noose was found near a garage at the Englewood District station, 6120 S. Racine Ave., early Monday morning, police News Affairs Director Monique Bond said.

The noose was found by a person in an isolated area near the police garage, Bond said. A construction company is currently working in the area near the garage where the noose was found, Bond said.

A person not affiliated with the Chicago Police Department found the noose, and told district police, Bond said. The Englewood District commander and district deputy chief reached out to the complainant, after finding out about the noose.

As of Tuesday night, police are not classifying the incident as a hate crime, because there was no intended target, Bond said.

Bond said the police departments Civil Rights Unit and the city's Commission on Human Relations are conducting a joint investigation.
