Newborn Baby Dies Following NW Side Crash

CHICAGO (STNG) ― A newborn baby girl died Friday night, less than a week after her mother suffered injuries in a two-car accident on the Northwest Side.

Baby girl Villegas, of 4718 N. Lawndale Ave., was pronounced dead at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center at 7:58 p.m. Friday, according to a Cook County Medical Examiner's office spokesman.

Her mother was involved in a car accident at Wellington and Cicero avenues, the spokesman said.

Authorities said the baby was born three days after the crash and died apparently from injuries her mother suffered in the crash.

The accident happened at night on July 5, according to a Grand Central Area sergeant.

The woman was involved in a two-car accident, and the driver of one of the vehicles was charged with an aggravated DUI, according to a source.

An autopsy for the baby is scheduled for Saturday.
