Baby Girl Born At 12:12 a.m.

CHICAGO (STNG) ―

While some were ringing in the new year with noisemakers, champagne and other sorts of revelry, many Chicago-area families welcomed 2008 with the birth of a new baby.

A round of calls to hospitals Tuesday found that the first baby born in the Chicago area in 2008 may have come into the world at 12:12 a.m. at the Saint Mary Campus of Saints Mary and Elizabeth Medical Center in the Wicker Park/Ukrainian Village area.

Klaudia Cikowska weighs 6 pounds, 1 ounce, according to hospital spokeswoman Carrie Quidayan. She said both the mother and the baby are doing well Tuesday afternoon.

Just four minutes later, the first baby boy of 2008 was born at Swedish Covenant Hospital in the North Ravenswood area.

Miguel Angel Aviles, Jr. was born at 12:16 a.m. to Esther Calderon and Miguel Aviles, Sr., weighing 7 pounds, 12 ounces, according to hospital spokesman Tim Nelson. The boy's mother was resting Tuesday afternoon, Nelson said.

In the suburbs, the first baby of the new year was born at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge. Baby girl Rocio Morales was born at 12:46 a.m., weighing 6 pounds, 3 ounces.

In the south suburbs, the first baby of 2008 may have been born at Little Company of Mary Hospital and Health Care Centers in Evergreen Park. Hospital spokeswoman Denise Stillman says a baby was born there a little after 1 a.m.

Also in the south suburbs, the first baby born in 2008 at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn came in about 5 a.m., according to a hospital spokeswoman.

In Naperville, the first baby of the new year to be born at Edward Hospital was born at 4:25 a.m. Tuesday, according to a hospital spokesman.
