Twin Brothers Charged In Murder Of West Side Mom

CHICAGO (CBS) ― Twin brothers were charged Wednesday in the murder of a 20-year-old mother of three, gunned down last week in a drive-by near a West Side bus stop.

Keith and Kelly Pearson, both 31, are charged with first-degree murder in the Oct. 7 homicide, according to police News Affairs.

Natasha Howliet, of 415 S. Lotus Ave., was shot at 3357 W. Madison St. and was pronounced dead at 8:53 p.m. at Mount Sinai Hospital, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office. An autopsy ruled the death a homicide caused by a gunshot wound to the back, the medical examiner's office said.

Police said Howliet was standing on the sidewalk at a bus stop at about 8 p.m. when somebody inside a red vehicle pulled a gun and shot her in the shoulder.

The shooting took place right under a police department surveillance camera. Last week, Chicago Police Superintendent Jody Weis said that video evidence could be instrumental in solving the case.

"The good news is we got excellent camera footage. And we're very optimistic that we can solve this case," said Weis.

Keith Pearson, of the 2900 block of West Harrison Street, is a self-admitted member of the Vice Lords gang, police said. Kelly Pearson's home address is listed in the 1400 block of North Ridgeway Avenue.

Howliet's Myspace.com profile indicates she graduated from West Town Academy, 2021 W. Fulton St., in 2008 after spending her first two years of high school at Clemente Community Academy, 1147 N. Western Ave.

She lists herself as a "proud parent" interested in basketball and cheerleading, who had worked at K-Mart.

This tragic also shooting happened on the same day as the breakfast meeting on youth violence in Chicago, attended by U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder, Education Secretary Arne Duncan, and Mayor Richard M. Daley.

But more importantly, it happened on the birthday of Howliet's 3-year-old daughter. Howliet also leaves behind a girl who will be 2 years old next month and a 6-month-old baby boy.

Both men will appear for a bond hearing on Thursday in Violence Court (Br. 66).
