A west suburban man has been charged with falsely telling police he was robbed and stabbed outside a restaurant, going as far as providing a full description of three suspects.
Esteban Rodriguez, 23, of 955 Schomer Road in Aurora, was taken into custody Wednesday and charged with attempting to file a false police report, a Class A misdemeanor, according to Naperville police.
Police were called to the emergency room of Provena Mercy Hospital in Aurora at 2:37 a.m. Sunday where a patient reported being stabbed and beaten during an armed robbery outside the Key Wester restaurant at 1975 Glacier Park Dr. in Naperville.
Rodriguez, a 23-year-old Aurora man employed at the Key Wester, suffered a minor injury and was treated and released from the hospital, according to a release from police.
He told police he was beaten and robbed by three men and provided a description of three alleged suspects.
Detectives investigating the case learned the incident never happened and Rodriguez provided false information. After reviewing the case with the DuPage County State's Attorney's office, detectives obtained a warrant for Rodriguez's arrest, the release said.
Rodriguez was released after posting 10 percent of a $1,000 bond and is scheduled for a preliminary hearing Nov. 24.
