Slain Girl's Dad Takes Lie Detector Test
Mya Lyons' Murder Remains Unsolved
CHICAGO (STNG) ―
The father of a 9-year-old girl found slain in an alley near his home last week was questioned by Chicago Police detectives and submitted to a polygraph test Thursday.
That's according to Dawn Douglas, the sister of Richard Lyons, who found his daughter, Mya Lyons -- bloody and near death -- the night of July 14 in an alley near his home in the 8400 block of South Gilbert Court. Mya, who had been stabbed multiple times, died at a hospital the next morning. She lived in Addison with her mom and brother but was spending part of the summer with her father in Chicago.
No arrests have been made in the case. Police had questioned another man about the case but released him Sunday night.
Douglas said Chicago Police officers came to Lyons' home in the Auburn Gresham neighborhood on Thursday.
"They asked him if they could pick him up and bring him in to do the exam," Douglas said.
She said they took him to a police station, asked him some questions, and he submitted to the polygraph test. He was released hours later and went home, she said.
Douglas said Lyons was resting Thursday afternoon and won't be commenting.
It was unclear whether results of the test came back Thursday.
Chicago Police spokeswoman Monique Bond declined to discuss the interview, but she did say: "The family is very cooperative. We've been talking to a number of individuals, including family members."
Douglas said her brother told her that other family members were being asked to submit to polygraph testing and questioning.
Douglas said her brother told her that police explained the need for the questioning and polygraph test this way: "They said this is to make sure they're covering their bases . . . to put that rumor that the family had anything to do with it to rest," Douglas said.
