The brutal murder of a young girl overnight has stricken fear in everyone who lives in the Auburn-Gresham neighborhood.
As CBS 2's Dorothy Tucker reports, the girl's relatives, other parents and community leaders are desperate to solve this crime and have asked anyone with information to come forward.
Mya Lyons' body was found in an alley near her home late Monday night. An autopsy on Tuesday determined she died as the result of a brutal assault.
Her aunt, Dawn Douglas said, "I'm scared for all my nieces and nephews. I'm like you all; hold on tight to them."
Douglas was among the relatives who gathered at the family's home to mourn the little girl's death.
Mya's body was found in the alley behind her father's home Monday night. The house sits in the middle of a quiet dead-end street where new construction has brought new neighbors. Relatives said they've joined old neighbors who pride themselves on keeping the block safe.
"It's like generations of families and they sit outside and they watch each other and that's why we know somebody heard something. Please let us know. Mya deserves it. She was a good little girl," Douglas said.
Neighbors also wanted answers. On Tuesday, they delivered balloons and flowers to Mya's grieving father. Residents like Eddie Cooper have been hanging on to their children a little tighter.
"Wherever I go, she's right on my side. It's sad. Things have gotten out of hand now," Cooper said.
Late Tuesday afternoon, Mya's father led an anti-violence rally in the neighborhood. He was joined by local politicians and community activists. Each added their voices to the plea for information that will lead to Mya's killer.
Rev. Michael Pfleger said, "Come forward right now, anyone who knows anything about ths murder or the murder of any of our children in our city ... You cannot hide, you cannot hide in our neighborhoods, you cannot hide in our blocks. ... We'll find you."
The community has raised $4,500 to offer as a reward to anyone with information about Mya's murder.
