'Sex And The City' Buzz About More Than Movie
Movie Set To Open May 30, Many Tickets Presold For Big Opening Night
CHICAGO (CBS) ―
The new "Sex and the City" movie doesn't open until next week. But the buzz in this city is already in full gear.
As CBS 2'S Roseanne Tellez reports, the return of Carrie Bradshaw and friends has become much more than a night at the movies.
Just like their favorite characters so often do, "Sex and the City" fans are making a night of it, planning everything from outrageous outfits to elaborate parties to celebrate the opening of the new film next Friday.
"This has been a really highly anticipated movie, and having an opening night party, an event in Chicago is really kind of our ultimate girls' night out," said Suzie Glickman.
Glickman is one of the organizers of a monthly event called "Girls Night Out at the Movies." Chicago business leaders and socialites enjoy a film and fabulous party afterward. This month it's one of the hottest tickets in town.
Amanda Puck helped put together "The 900 Shops After Party," which follows the movie.
"We have a fantastic DJ, everybody's going to be dressed in their 'Sex and the City' best and the favorite drink of the night will obviously be the Cosmopolitan," Puck said.
Neiman Marcus was one of a slew of stores to host a "Sex and the Windy City" shopping event.
The movie is so hot advance ticket sales, especially for groups, are booming. At Kerasotes Webster Place they scrambled to get an extra copy of the film after two auditoriums sold out a week before opening night.
CBS 2 Entertainment Reporter Bill Zwecker says television shows made into movies are usually bombs. But this could be an exception.
"No matter what the critics say, myself included, when it comes out next week it's still going to have a huge built-in audience and will do very, very well," Zweker said.
He says the difference is how deeply the series connected with its audience.
But will Carrie and the girls be celebrating at the end of the movie? We don't' know, but are told to expect surprises.
Just a reminder, movie tickets are selling quickly for the opening weekend. Some shows are already sold out.
The big party at 900 North Michigan is invitation-only. But, there are many other events going on. Here's a sampling of local events:
