Mom Accused Of Driving Drunk With Kids In Car

Heather Coburn Was Caught Doing Same Thing In 2007

WAUKEGAN, Ill. (CBS) ― A Mundelein woman accused of drunk driving and child endangerment remained in jail Monday. 

This was the second time in 16 months that she has been charged with driving drunk with children in the car.

Heather Coburn, 33, of 431 N. Midlothian Road was arrested after midnight Sunday by Mundelein police following a traffic stop on Midlothian Road near Beckett Crossing Drive.

She was accompanied by her children, ages 5 and 6, and her blood-alcohol level was twice the legal limit, police said.

Officers received a tip that Coburn might be driving drunk with children in the car, and they began following her, Mundelein Sgt. John Monahan said. After Coburn crossed the center line a few times, she was pulled over, he said.

Coburn told officers she was returning from a grocery store.

She was given a Breathalyzer test and blew a .148. The legal limit is 0.08.

Coburn was charged with two counts of child endangerment and one count of aggravated DUI. She also faces charges for driving on a revoked license, expired registration, improper lane usage and a child-restraint violation.

She's being held in Lake County Jail in lieu of $75,000 bond.

Coburn was charged with a similar offense last year. On June 22, 2007, Round Lake police arrested Coburn after she was spotted dropping beer bottles out of her car window. The car had five children in it.

It was discovered that Coburn was drunk, and she was charged with driving under the influence and five counts of endangering the life of a child. The outcome of the case was not immediately available.
